Our Occupational Therapists work with people of all ages to achieve optimal function at home, school, at work and in the community.
We help guide and enable children to achieve their developmental milestones with effective motor performance, planning and coordination, and proficient executive function. Executive function refers to the cognitive skills that help us to organise our thoughts and actions so that we can accomplish the tasks we set to do. Well developed executive function also helps us to identify and describe emotion and regulate our behavioural responses in times of stress and other changes.
We assist parents, carers and others to support the social, physical and emotional development of those closest to them.
Patients are invited to participate in a functional assessment with capacity building therapy designed to achieve individually tailored goals. The general objective is to enable people to achieve a sense of self-efficacy and independence in daily life.
For some children and adults, the therapy process includes learning new skills and for others, we work out ways to restore, adapt or rebuild capacities perhaps lost or forgotten.
We consider it of great benefit to measure progress concerning a person’s perception of competence and the level of satisfaction they experience during the tasks or activities they have identified as important. We can also measure outcomes and support progress with objective, standardised assessments. This information can help guide future therapy and external support requirements.
